The Squad’s Prayer
Oh Lord, you have not merely told us, but have emphasized that if only two of us “. . . agree on earth about anything they may ask, it shall be done by [your] Father, who is in heaven.” (Matt. 18: 19)
Lord, in your very next words, You go on to tell us why this is so: “For where two or three have gathered in My Name, I am in their midst.” (Matt. 18: 20)
Lord, we are your soldiers, and we fight your fight here on earth. The enemy hides its agents all around us. In keeping with your word, we ask that You direct your Light against the darkness of the enemy around us; illuminating it that we may know it for what it is . . .an anathema to your Light, and to see its agents for what they are.
Lord, we ask that You make us strong and gird us with the full armor of God (Eph. 6: 10-20); we ask that You deliver us from “. . . those whose mouths are full of lies, and whose right hands are deceitful.” (Ps. 144: 7-8)
For we are your soldiers, Lord. Use us to stay the darkness, and to visit your mighty justice on its agents around us. By your Providence, we ask that you protect us from their dark machinations; enable us to stand our ground, to fight, and when we have done everything. . . to continue to stand firm in your Light.
Father, your breath gives life to the universe. Your breath is your life in us. . . together, we your men breath your life in cadence – as one. And together in agreement, we ask that you look with favor on this, the humble prayer of each of us as your servant, and the whole of us as a squad of your soldiers.
(Here: each man offers up his personal intention for this prayer)
Together, your soldiers pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Providence of your Holy Spirit. Amen
Note: The prayer by kindred spirits, members of one family, servants of one Lord, having the same heart, fighting under one banner, cheered by assurances of the same victory; living in Christ, whose voice in the divine ear is as the sound of many waters. Accordingly, what they ask “on earth” is done for them, says Jesus, “of My Father which is in heaven.” From the Commentaries of Jamieson, Fausset & Brown.
